Issues & Needs

The Ocean

Rapid Changes in the Marine Environment

The ocean, which covers approximately 70% of the Earth's surface, is undergoing rapid environmental change. Rising seawater temperatures due to climate change are disrupting ecosystem balance, causing serious damage such as increasingly frequent red tides and coral bleaching. Changes in the ocean that has nurtured abundant life are an urgent challenge directly linked to the future of our lives and food culture.

People

Declining Marine Resources

Rapid changes in the ocean due to rising water temperatures are a serious challenge shared by fisheries industries worldwide. Conventional models that rely heavily on offshore and coastal fishing are being forced to undergo fundamental change. New innovations are needed to shift toward sustainable fisheries—including technology-enabled resource management and a transition to aquaculture with lower environmental impact.

Mission

LET THE OCEAN REST, CREATE YOUR OWN.

Vision

Creating a system and culture that enables land-based aquaculture by anyone, anywhere

This becomes a land-based aquaculture platform that addresses the challenges facing the world's oceans and people—expanding opportunities for companies and individuals to participate, promoting the democratization of aquaculture, and becoming a new driver of the fisheries industry.
