ARK Co., Ltd. (Head office: Hiratsuka, Kanagawa; Co-founder/Director/ CEO: Yosuke Kurihara; hereinafter “ARK”) is pleased to announce that itsmodular closed recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), ARK ZERO MATRIX 25000, has been selected as an ACC Finalist in the Creative Innovation Category at the 2026 66th ACC TOKYO CREATIVITY AWARDS, organized by the All Japan Radio & Television Commercial Confederation (ACC).

The 2026 awards received a total of 2,545 entries across all categories. The Creative Innovation Category attracted 63 entries, including new corporate projects, startups, and prototypes developed by research institutions. Of these, only five projects, including ARK ZERO MATRIX 25000, were selected as ACC Finalists.

About ARK ZERO MATRIX 25000

ARK ZERO MATRIX 25000 is a modular closed recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) that integrates the essential functions of land-based aquaculture into compact units.

The system consists of two fish-rearing tanks and one Life Support System (LSS) unit. It is offered as an all-in-one solution equipped with the essential functions for land-based aquaculture, including water circulation, filtration, sterilization, heating, automated feeding, and water quality monitoring.

Its modular design enables operators to start with small-scale pilot projects and gradually expand into full-scale aquaculture facilities by adding units as their businesses grow.

The system also offers flexibility to accommodate different locations and operational requirements. It can operate as a partially recirculating aquaculture system (PRAS) in locations with access to seawater or as a modular closed RAS in locations where only freshwater is available.

In addition, the tanks’ high thermal insulation and airtight construction help reduce heating and cooling costs. Automated feeders and ARK’s remote monitoring and management application, STARBOARD BY ARK, streamline water quality management and reduce the operational workload.

Through these features, ARK aims to lower the barriers to adopting and operating land-based aquaculture systems.

Background and Development

As the global population continues to grow and marine environments undergo significant changes, establishing reliable and sustainable seafood production systems has become an increasingly important issue for food security in Japan and around the world.

Wild fishery resources are finite, and ongoing changes in marine ecosystems are raising concerns about a potential future shortage of protein supply.

At the same time, much of the world’s seafood is transported over long distances from production areas to consumer markets. Rising fuel prices, labor shortages in logistics, natural disasters, and disruptions caused by geopolitical developments pose additional risks to stable seafood supply chains.

To address these challenges, ARK developed ARK ZERO MATRIX, one of the few domestically developed and manufactured modular recirculating land-based aquaculture systems in Japan.

By establishing distributed seafood production facilities closer to areas of demand, ARK aims to create a more resilient supply system that does not rely solely on marine resources or production concentrated in specific regions.

ARK also seeks to make aquaculture more accessible to local communities and a wider range of businesses, rather than limiting participation to specialized aquaculture operators. This approach is intended to support the creation of new regional industries while contributing to a more sustainable seafood sector.

Building on this recognition as an ACC Finalist, ARK will continue to advance the real-world deployment of its modular land-based aquaculture systems in Japan and overseas, leveraging Japanese manufacturing expertise and technology.

Through these efforts, the company aims to contribute to a stable seafood supply, stronger food security, and the conservation of marine environments.
